Product description
Step aboard M/S Arktis and cruise from Longyearbyen across Adventfjorden into the heart of the High Arctic. Along the way, you’ll pass the dramatic slopes of Hiorthfjellet while enjoying breathtaking views of Longyearbyen across the fjord, see the remarkable Global Seed Vault and view the distant Drønbreen Glacier.
As the vessel turns south and follows the rugged coastline, you’ll pass the scenic Bjørndalen Valley, known for its striking landscapes and rich birdlife, before continuing towards the towering cliffs of Pilarberget, home to thriving seabird colonies during the summer season.
The journey continues to the historic ghost settlement of Grumant, a former Soviet mining community that once housed hundreds of residents. Today, the abandoned buildings and dramatic surroundings offer a fascinating glimpse into Svalbard’s mining history and the resilient communities that once inhabited the High Arctic.
After exploring the coastline around Grumant, M/S Arktis returns to Adventfjorden for the highlight of the excursion: Arctic Seafloating. All the passengers have the opportunity to float in the icy arctic ocean while wearing a specially designed survival suit. The floating program takes place from the aft deck, and the swimming area is protected from wildlife with a large safety cage. Expert ship crew and local specialized guide will keep an eye that wildlife is not disturbed during the program, and safety is the main priority. The special immersion suits keep you warm and buoyant, allowing you to simply relax and enjoy the extraordinary sensation of floating in the pristine arctic waters. There is no need to bring any special equipment, everything you need is provided on board. Very few people in the world have experienced floating in the Arctic Ocean. Today, you can become one of them.
